TEAM HUMMER SENDS H1 AND H3 TO TERRIBLE’S TOWN Reno, NV: The second race of Best in the Desert Racing Association’s Silver State Series, the ‘Terrible’s Town 250’, is next on the 2007 Team HUMMER racing schedule. The event will be contested over a 242 mile loop course which starts in the old mining town of Johnnie, Nevada on April 28th. Hosted by Terrible’s Town Casino, this is one of the most popular events in the series due, in part, to the additional $40,000 in prize money put up by the Casino which also sponsors a huge barbecue at the finish line on raceday afternoon. This will be the ninth year of the ‘Terrible’s Town 250’ and Team HUMMER’s Rod Hall is the defending champion in Class 3100 having driven the H3 to victory in last year’s event. This is a rugged course which winds it’s way north, about 100 miles into Southern Nevada’s Amargosa Valley, before turning back for the return trip to the finish in Pahrump. Coming off a big win at the ‘Parker 425’ in February, Chad Hall not only chalked up the first victory for the H1 Alpha but the win was Chad’s first ever at the ‘Parker 425’. The #8111 Team HUMMER H1 Alpha Pickup and the #3111 H3 SUV will head to this year’s ‘Terrible’s Town 250’, April 27-28 while the #4111 H2 SUV will remain in Reno to complete preparations for the SCORE ‘Baja 500’, in early June. Terrible’s Town marks the one year anniversary since the debut of the #8111 H1 Alpha, which took a hard fought 8th place finish here in 2006 after a variety of new truck problems dogged Chad all the way around the race course. A year has passed and the #8111 Team HUMMER H1 Alpha pickup is a different truck than it was last April. The learning curve has been steep but with each succeeding event we have uncov-ered problems and re-engineered systems until the curve started to flatten out at this year’s ‘Parker 425’ where we enjoyed an almost trouble-free race. We did have some problems with the shocks but it was later determined that we had failed to replace the shock oil prior to the event. This has now been relegated to a regular maintenance detail before each race. Chad Hall and the #8111 Team HUMMER H1 Alpha will arrive at the ‘Terrible’s Town 250’ this year with the truck sorted out and ready to challenge for the win in Class 8100. With competitors like Randy Merrit and Greg Fouts running at the top of their form, it will take a trouble-free performance to take the checkered flag. Rod and Josh Hall will team up to drive the #3111 Team HUMMER H3 SUV at Terrible’s Town. Electrical problems sidelined the H3 at the ‘Parker 425’ resulting in the first DNF for the H3 since the engine blew a rod at the 2006 ‘Vegas to Reno’. Just after the Parker race, Rod returned to Parker to do some testing and had problems with metal fatigue in the front shock mount system. The truck was re-turned to the Proving Ground in Mesa, AZ where Doug Moore and Matt Laramie carried out a number of repairs and upgrades. The front shock mounting system was redesigned and fabricated using stronger materials. While the truck was stripped down they also replaced the entire running gear with new compo-nents, including a fresh motor. Also replaced was the front steering mount, which had caused some prob-lems, lately. The crew installed a new, stronger, mounting system HUMMER is now using on the produc-tion vehicles. The Engine wiring harness was replaced, all the shocks rebuilt and new, stiffer, rear springs have now been installed. Much of this work was done in preparation for the ‘Baja 500’, which is only a month after the ‘Terrible’s Town 250’. The “TT-250” should provide a rigorous test of the many upgrades that have been made to the H3.
