Reno, NV - January 29, 2007: After season opening class wins for both the H2 and H3 at the SCORE ‘Laughin Desert Challenge’, January 20-21, Team HUMMER is preparing the entire three truck race team for Best in the Desert Racing Association’s Blue Water Resort & Casino ‘Parker 425’, February 2-3. The opening event of BitD’s 2007 Silver State Series, Chad Hall finished a close third at last year’s ‘Parker 425’ in the final race for the old Team HUMMER H1 Pickup. This will be the first time the #8111 H1 Alpha Full-Stock Pickup will race in Parker and the H1 will be the first truck off the line for Team HUMMER on Saturday morning. Sharing the co-rider seat in the H1 will be Sam Edgar and Damien Michelin. Josh Hall, who won here in 2005 in the H2 SUV, suffered a transmission failure during last year’s race so he teamed up with his father, team owner, Rod Hall to win the Mini-Stock Class in 2006. Josh will drive the entire event in the #4111 H2 Pure-Stock SUV with Sam Cothrun and Thad Stump trading time in the second seat. Rod Hall in the #3111 H3 Pure Stock-Mini SUV will start the race and share driving time with Team HUMMER Co-driver, Mike Winkel. The H3 co-riders will be Michael Banovsky of the Toronto Star, David Vowell, editor of HMR Magazine and our own Jake Povey riding lap#3 to the finish. The race will start at 7:15AM (MST) off California Street, on the southside of downtown Parker. The course is a 138 mile loop of grueling desert terrain and for those able to complete three laps, the event will conclude behind the Blue Water Resort and Casino on the banks of the Colorado River. It will be well into the evening by the time the first Team HUMMER truck crosses the finish line, giving us ample opportu-nity to use our new Hella Lights and Optima batteries, two new partners who came on board with Team HUMMER this year. After being on it’s side early on in the ‘Baja 1000’, the #3111 H3 required a significant amount of body work and a total repaint to get the truck back in shape prior to the start of the season opener in Laughlin. The crew from the Desert Proving Ground, in Mesa, AZ also replaced the rear springs and installed a new 3.7 Vortec powerplant to get the H3 ready for 2007. After an almost trouble-free race in Baja, the #4111 H2 SUV appeared to require only minor work, mechanically so it was decided that a basic prep and a complete cleaning of the fuel system would get it through the short 48 mile distance of the ‘Laughlin Desert Challenge’. Since then Sam Cothrun and Jake Povey have focused all of their time on the major compo-nents in preparation for the long run at Parker. Because the H1 didn’t race in Laughlin, John Cumming has had the past two months to go over every detail on the #8111 H1 Alpha Pickup to get ready for Parker, so the team is ready for this race and anxious for the green flag to drop on the 2007 Best in the Desert racing season. Anyone wanting to follow our progress in real time can go to www.racetheworld.net and simply follow the instructions to access the race page on Saturday, February 3rd.. The mood at Team HUMMER is confidence in all of our trucks for this race and for the entire 2007 racing season. This will be an exciting year for the team with some new races on our schedule and new Class 8100 and 4100 trucks on the drawing board which will hopefully become a reality by year’s end. For the time being, we are off to take on the “Parker 425’ and our plan is to extend our winning streak to 21 consecutive races where Team HUMMER has found the winner’s circle in at least one or more classes..
