2001 ~"Vegas to Reno"
"The Longest Off-Road Race in the United States"

Las Vegas, NV - The Best In The Desert Racing Association's 2001 - "Silver State Series" off-road race, "Vegas to Reno" is set for September 27, 28, 29, 30, 2001, and is billed as "The Longest Off-Road Race in the United States!" In fact, this race is over 500-miles of some of the most beautiful country in the west; 500 miles of off-road adventure traveling through the State of Nevada. The race begins in Las Vegas, Nevada, and travels north through the historic mining towns of Goldfield and Tonopah, continuing through the Silver Peak Mountain Range, through Hawthorne, Silver Springs and finishing 500-miles later in Reno, Nevada! Quite an off-road adventure!

Casey Folks, Director of Best In The Desert Racing Association, is very proud of his flagship race, "Vegas to Reno!" Folks says, "This is the most incredible racecourse in my series. It encompasses everything the Nevada desert has to offer! The racers begin this race in the Southern Nevada desert, where it is hot and dusty and they race over rough, rocky terrain. As the race proceeds north, and the racers climb in elevation, the terrain turns to beautiful mountain passes with a softer terrain and it begins to cool down. As the racers approach Reno, Nevada, some 500-miles from the start, they are focused on only one thing, getting to the finish! The first place finishers will reach the finish in a little over ten hours, with the last place people coming in some twenty-three hours later. After racing for twenty-three hours, it is truly a test of man, mind and machine."

Racing enthusiasts from across the nation will be hitting everything but the pavement in Nevada to participate in the country's longest off-road race, "Vegas to Reno!" The Suncoast Hotel will host the participants of this 5th Addition "Vegas to Reno" off-road adventure of championship caliber, with Registration, Technical Inspection and Contingency Row on Thursday, September 27, 2001. The race will begin early Friday morning, and for some, continue late into the night.

Defending champion in the 1400 Trick Truck Class and 1st Overall was Larry Roeseler, Irvine, CA, in 10:13:13. Defending champion and 3rd overall in the 1500 Unlimited Car Class was Troy Herbst, Las Vegas, NV, in his Ford Smith-Built Truggy. The 8000 Class 1st place, and 5th overall went to Dave Westhem, Las Vegas, NV.

Defending champion and 1st overall in the Motorcycle Division, Open Pro Class was David Ondas and Shane Esposito, riding a Kawasaki, in 9:24:47. There were actually fifteen (15) Ironmen, which raced the 500-mile 2000, "Vegas to Reno" off-road race and leading the pack was Cory Ayers, Las Vegas, NV, finishing in 11:22:41. Imagine 11 hours of riding a motorcycle by yourself, no partners to give you a break, and racing 500-miles across the State of Nevada, unbelievable! These men are truly IRONMEN. Defending champion in the Quad Division and 1st overall was Dwight Lowell, Tujunga, CA, riding a Honda, in 12:38:27.

Registration, Technical Inspection, and Contingency begin at 10:00 am at the Suncoast Hotel in Las Vegas, Thursday, September 27, 2001. Spectators are welcome to come to the Suncoast Hotel on Thursday and look at all of the incredible Motorcycles, Quads, Cars and Trucks. We welcome you to attend and meet some of the most famous, professional off-road racers in the country! The host hotel in Reno is the Reno Hilton, spectators are also welcome to see what these incredible race vehicles look like after 500 miles of racing in the desert!
