Short
course off-road racing is Ensenada, B.C.,
Mexico - April 30, 2001 - if proof was needed that fans are excited
about the new Xtreme International short course off-road racing series
one only needed to see the over 5,000 spectators enjoying the excitement
during the sixth Sixty one competitors from Baja and three US states provided the thrills as they competed on the 1.4 mile off-road course to the delight of the fans. The national importance of the event is evidenced in that it will be televised on Fox Sports International, shown throughout South America, while the hundreds of driver autographs signed attested to the local interest. Premier sponsorship from Gigante Supermarkets, Corona Beer, Pegaso Cellular and Wayne Perry Construction enabled a level of professionalism not normally associated with off-road events in any country. All types of off-road vehicles were represented from motorcycles, ATVs, Rally cars and the popular Safari class for novices right up to the ground pounding heavy metal SuperTruks. The Estero International Raceway facility is both racer and spectator friendly. Although the stands were sold out no seats were being used during the Corona Truck Challenge Sunday Finale as the fans remained on their feet for both truck races. The big winners of the $16,000 purse were Curt LeDuc (SuperTruk 4), Tommy Bradley (SuperTruk 2), Rick Huseman and Bob Beyer (Champ Trucks). The second race of
the Xtreme International series is scheduled for October, again at Estero
International Raceway, then the series moves north to Lake Havasu City,
Arizona, in November and Laughlin, Nevada, in December. A six race series
is planned for 2002. Details will be posted as they become available. |
