XTREME INTERNATIONAL
A new race sanctioning organizations is being formed as we go to press. It is called Xtreme International and will sanction and develop stadium style off road races in California, Arizona, Nevada and Baja California, Mexico. Jim Russell of Desert Steel Motorsports and Gerardo Novelo of Estero International will be co-directors. The initial race series will consist of four races for 2001, starting April 28th - 29th at Estero Beach Resort in Ensenada, Baja California, Mexico. The second race will be October 13th - 14th, again at Estero Beach, and then the series will move to Lake Havasu City for the second annual Baja in Havasu race at SARA Park, November 17th - 18th. The series finale is scheduled for December 8th - 9th in Laughlin, Nevada with the year end banquet. A manufacturers' contingency purse program is being assembled and at press time BF Goodrich Tires, F&L Fuels, Comp comm Radios for Racing, Spencer Low Off Road Products, Enduro Motorsports Trailers, Estero Beach resort and the Lake Havasu Tourism Bureau had all signed on. For 2002
discussions have already begun to add a race in Pahrump, Nevada (near Las
Vegas) and in southern California to make a six race series. Competition classes
are being created to accommodate not only the many stadium class off road
vehicles in the Southwest, but to feature the desert vehicles also. The racing
programs will include a Safari class for non-professional first time racers
to get their racing careers launched. Everything from the Ultra Lights to
the Formula Unlimited Buggy's and Super Trucks will be represented.
